Radio

At Bryn Mawr, I wanted to explore creative writing beyond the basics of fiction and poetry. When I heard a visiting alum was teaching "Writing for Radio & Podcasts," I signed up, curious about a new way to tell stories: audio journalism. The visiting alum ended up being a digital producer from WHYY’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross. How had I managed to snag a seat in this class(?!)

The course was everything. We met mentors from across NPR, and I didn’t feel like I was in a classroom but a mentorship program. We gained real audio skills: editing, sourcing, interviewing, recording, and—importantly, but not emphasized enough—cutting.

I loved the subject and production of it all so much I landed an internship at World Cafe in Philadelphia, where I got to experience the living, breathing environment of a public radio station. Let’s just say it was pretty damn awesome!

Check out my experience with radio across this page.

Billboards

In “Writing for Radio & Podcasts” one of our assignments was to write billboards. My professor pulled a few Fresh Air interviews from the archives and had us practice writing as if the billboards hadn’t been written yet.

Find two of my billboards here.

Projects & Podcasts

Through my radio course, we produced a few audio projects including a Fresh Air style interview, a news report in which we created a 5-minute clip that brought us through a Bryn Mawr tradition, and a final project — a 20-minute podcast produced throughout the semester.

You can view a snippet from the interview and the “Lantern Night” piece here.

Due to privacy reasons, the podcast final is not available online; however, clips may be available upon request here.

World Cafe

Spring 2025 brought me to the heart of WXPN in Philadelphia — World Cafe. Working on this show neatly folded together my love of music, my love of writing, and my newfound excitement centering radio.

Attached, you can find various projects I supported throughout my time here. From researching artists to assist hosts with interviews, to assisting producers & hosts with interview prep, to sitting in on studio sessions, it was a blast, truly.

I even got to help with editing :D
